Program Highlights

The foundation’s education program supports selected programs that improve the teaching skills of educators and artists in environmental and arts education.

During 2005 and 2006, environmental education projects included Adopt-A-Watershed’s leadership training institute and an Exploratorium pilot project to provide training in environmental education to middle and high school science teachers.

In arts education, the foundation supported an Inner-City Arts pilot program that prepares students in UCLA’s Center X teacher preparation program to integrate the arts into classroom instruction, and the California College of Arts for a project that trains arts educators to provide classroom teachers with professional development in arts education.

Other grantees in this area included the Armory Center for the Arts, Arts Education Funders Collaborative, Community Resources for Science, Performing Arts Workshop, P.S. Arts and the Graduate School of Education at the University of California, Berkeley.
