Under its music priorities, the foundation supports selected programs that provide instrumental music instruction to young people and strives to strengthen orchestras and chamber ensembles by funding projects that improve their ability to raise funds and implement artistic initiatives.
In 2005 and 2006, the foundation helped establish a new after-school music program at the Allen Temple Baptist Church in Oakland, California, supported a new LA’s BEST stringed instrument instruction program and provided funding for the Yehudi Menuhin Chamber Music Seminar organized by the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music.
The foundation supported ensemble performances of new or rarely performed work, such as Southwest Chamber Music’s performance of a composition by Cambodian composer Chinary Ung, a newly commissioned work by former resident composers of the California Symphony in celebration of its 20th anniversary and Earplay’s performance of a new composition by Guillermo Gallindo.
The foundation also provided the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra with multiyear support to develop its capacity to increase contributed income, and helped the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra purchase software to better manage its fund-raising program.
Other ensembles and music programs receiving support included Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, California Summer Music, Cazadero Performing Arts Camp, Left Coast Ensemble, Marin Symphony, Music Academy of the West, San Francisco Community Music Center, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Oakland East Bay Symphony, Pacific Chamber Symphony, Pacific Symphony, Paul Dresher Ensemble, Sacramento Philharmonic, San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, San Francisco Symphony, Santa Cruz Chamber Players, Santa Rosa Symphony and the Young Musicians Program at the University of California, Berkeley.
